Regular Pool

Making your picks

Picks are submitted by completing the pick sheet form for each week. You'll be picking the winner of each game "against the spread."
Definition - against the spread:To bet against the spread is to make a wager that will be decided by adding points to one team or the other after the game is played.

Examples: 1) Joe bet against the spread that the Patriots (-7.5) would beat the Eagles. That means the Patriots would have to win by more than 7.5 points for Joe to win his bet.
2) Joe believes that the Patriots (-7.5) would beat the Eagles, but feels that the Eagles would "cover" the spread. So he takes the Eagles plus the points. That means if the Patriots lose, or win by less than 7.5 points, Joe wins his bet.

  • You pick the winner giving or taking points. This pool ends at the conclusion of week 17.
  • Make a guess on how many points will be scored by both teams in the Monday Night game.
  • There is no money involved in this pool, and therefor no prize money.

  • Picksheets:
The weekly pick sheet will be available as soon as possible on Tuesday each week. For the Point Spreads, the lines will be entered on Tuesday morning and will not change unless there is no line (NL) for a game.

If a game with NL gets a spread by Wednesday night the spread will be entered. If a game still has no line on Wednesday night, I'll estimate the spread.
For any spreads that are a whole number, I'll subtract .5 from the home team to avoid pushes. i.e., if the Ravens are at home and favored by three points (-3.0) , I'll change the spread to -3.5.
Point Spreads will be compiled from covers.com

    Side Pools

    Doubles Pool

Entry Fee: one time $10 per person for the season.
This pool replaces the "Conference Pool."
Choose a partner and decide on a team name (subject to pool manager approval)
Pool will run from week 1 to week 17 - the same deadlines apply to the Doubles Pool as the regular pool.
You must be in the regular pool to enter.
You and your partner's wins are combined to give a Team total.
The Team that is leading at the end of Week 17 will be the winner.
If there are multiple Teams tied at the top, then a tie breaker will be used.
Tie Breaker - The Team guessing closest to the total # of points scored in the final game of the Season will be the winner.
The onus is on you to make sure that you submit picks each week. Your partner can submit picks on your behalf but must submit using your player name.
No picks submitted = no wins for that week.
    Payout 1st place team only.

    Margin Pool

Entry Fee: one time $10 for the season.

You must be in the regular pool to enter.
This is a very fun and exciting pool and I strongly encourage everyone to join! It is the type of pool where you are never really out of it until the end. You could be in first place, and wham! your team loses by 28 points, and another player’s team wins by 35 points.

Pool will run from week 1 to week 17 - the same deadlines apply to the Margin Pool as the regular pool.

Players will pick one team each week. If the team wins, the winning margin, or margin of victory is added to their season point total. If the team loses, then the losing margin is subtracted from the player's season point total. The pool member that has the most points at the end of the season is the winner. Total wins are used as a tiebreaker.

You can't pick the same team twice, or miss picking a week. If either of the above occur, you lose points equal to the largest loss of that week.

Prizes will be awarded to the players that finish the season in first place (70% of the prize pool) and second place (30% of the prize pool).

    Survivor Pool

Entry Fee: one time $10 for the season.

Pick one team each week to win outright, no point spreads .
Two losses and you are out.

In case of multiple "deaths" at the end of the pool the following tie breakers will be used:

1st Tie Breaker - The longest "winning streak" of games picked of those players involved in the tie.

2nd Tie Breaker - The greater winning margin of the teams picked in the Survivor pool (using the Margin Pool format - or in otherwords, who survived best).

Pool will run from week 1 to week 17 or until there is one survivor, whichever occurs first.- the same deadlines apply to the Survivor Pool as the regular pool.

You can't pick the same team twice, or miss picking a week. If either of the above occur, you will incur a loss for that week.

    Payout 1st place only.

    Born Loser

    • Almost the complete opposite of the Survivor pool
    • Pick a loser each week instead of a winner.
    • You can use a team just ONCE during the season!
    • You only get one shot...pick a winning team and you're history, off to the showers - you're out of here!
    • If you select a team twice it will count as a loss for that week. The commissioner will do his best to let you know that you have selected a duplicate team in your picksheet via email, but ultimately it is the player's responsibility.
    • If you miss a week it will count as a loss. Be sure to make a pick every week!
    • This pool continues until there is only one player left, all remaining players go out in the same week, or until the end of the regular season.
    • If there is a tie or all remaining players are eliminated in the same week then the pot will be split equally to all tied players.
    • Each player contributes $10 to this pool. Payout is winner take all! Total payout will be determined by the number of players in the pool.
    • You may enter as many times as you wish for an additional $10 per play
    • You can't pick the same team twice, or miss picking a week. If either of the above occur, you will incur a loss for that week.

    Deadlines

Deadline for entries for all pools is two hours before the kick-off of the first game each week; generally Sunday at 8:00 AM Pacific Time. The two hours gives me a bit of a window to update the web site with the all picks report before the early games start. The pick sheet will be automatically removed from the server 2 hours prior to the first kickoff each week throughout the season, and no picks will be accepted after that time.

There are a several weeks when picks are due before Sunday. Weeks when picks are due prior to Sunday are:

    Weeks 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 (picks due on Thursday).

I'll send out email reminders to all players on the Monday of each of the above weeks. Check the schedule at NFL.com for any last-minute schedule changes.

If you miss one of these non-Sunday deadlines, the penalties are steep. You'll incur a missed week in any/all of the side pools, and zero wins in the regular pool.

No late picks will be allowed in any of the side pools - no exceptions.

    Point Spreads
For the Point Spreads, the lines will be entered as soon as possible on Tuesday morning and will not change unless there is no line (NL) for a game.

    Changing your picks
Picks can be changed any time prior to the weekly deadline. I'll always use your most recent picks.

    Quick Picks
With the inclusion of the side pools - and their subsequent entry fees, Quick Picks will no longer be allowed. It's up to each player to make their picks each week, or in the case of the Doubles Pool, the players partner may submit their partner's picks (but must use their partner's name).

    Weekly tiebreaker
With the point spread point format we'll have just one tiebreaker. Ties will be broken by the following method:

    Standings Determined By: Total Wins
Primary Tiebreaker: Monday Night Total Points

Your Monday Night Total Points tiebreaker guess can go over the total points scored.

    Season tiebreaker
The season pool will use the same tiebreaker system as the weekly tiebreaker:

    Standings Determined By: Total Wins
Primary Tiebreaker: Monday Night Total Points

For the Primary tiebreaker in the season pool, the Monday Night Total Points tiebreaker will be averaged to determine the place standings.

In the unlikely event that the players involved in a tie have exactly the same Win/Loss record and Total Points tiebreaker differential average at the end of the season, the total points tiebreaker for the Super Bowl will be used to break the tie. If there's still a tie at that point, a coin toss will be used.

    Playoffs and Super Bowl XLIV
The Playoffs will be a separate pool and will be a money pool. Participation is optional. Details of this pool will be announced later in the season.

    Enjoy The Pools!
